OK, world this is my first Blog ever so take it easy on me. I’m Gina and am the proud co-owner of Greenwave Travel in Downtown Easley. For my first Blog, I thought I would just get to know you by telling a little about what Travel Advisors do and why I chose to be one.
I have been in travel for almost 5 years now, and have owned my own agency for the last 2 of them. My job is full of ups and downs as I am sure many of yours are as well. On a good day I get to send someone that has never left SC to the Bahamas and create a memory that will last them a lifetime. On a bad day someone who is scheduled to fly out on there honeymoon finds out, on the day of there wedding, that all the airports have been shut down and they have no honeymoon. There day could have been worse though, if they did not have a travel advisor dedicated to re-booking them somewhere else so there special day was not ruined.
The best part of what I do is the face to face contact with people like you and me. We work hard to save a couple of bucks all year long so we can take that one vacation a year. Humans by nature are scared of the unknown, so for a family man who works 40 hours plus a week to put $2000.00 down on a trip, he does not want to take the risk that his investment was bad, so he sticks with what he knows. These are my favorite clients and why I became a travel advisor.
If I can show him how taking his family and letting them experience other cultures, or seeing clear turquoise water, or pristine white sands…is just, as if not, more affordable then what he is used to, then I have done him a favor. His family is richer when they get back then, when they left. They have experienced things as a family like riding horses on the beach, or getting to hold a baby dolphin, racing water tricycles in the ocean, memories that will not only last a lifetime, but just might pull them through a tough spot down the road.
Now do I get rich from those trips, not in the money sense no, but sometimes the bottom line is not about profit, sometimes it’s just about caring about human life and trying to make them better.
Times are hard on everyone and believe it or not YOU need and deserve a break.
